The New York Times recently reported a 45% surge in digital music sales, contrasted by a 9.5% drop in album sales for 2007. The downloading of digital music is quickly moving from being a niche practice among tech savvy consumers to being a truly mainstream activity. Along the way, the iTunes gift card gave birth to free music download cards, which in turn created a new non-traditional marketing opportunity. Butler/Till is now working with promotional firms to create branded music download cards for our clients. These cards have a low cost, high perceived value, and provide an excellent opportunity to engage with consumers.
